And the skies opened up for the first time. Kolkata tonight is beautiful, immaculate, pristine, perfect, sensuous, gorgeous. All the street lights shining clear, bedecked with little drops of water falling from the sky, the roads shimmering in the small puddles formed beneath our feet, the wind cool and fragrant bringing fresh breaths of new dreams. The summer rains have arrived in all its glory, or so we hope, and found us smiling, caught outdoors, without umbrellas or waterproofs, stranded in different parts of the city. Spears of lightning pierced the sky again and again and lit up faces turned upwards and revelling at the sight of layers upon layers of pregnant clouds, blushing red because of all the warmth and adulation received.

The city is quieter tonight. After a period of fitful, itchy and scorching heat, the rains have brought peace to everyone. One night of peace. After a long time the crickets can be clearly heard over the din of cars and buses, occasionally passing by on midnight runs. Some bird calling out clearly, preferring this quiet night rather than the day. Probably, tomorrow will be hot again. But, this city got this night. So, goodnight all you people already asleep…and to all those who are still awake enjoying the cool breeze blowing  through the rustling leaves, singing chimes and the whistling holes and cracks everywhere in our beloved city…

P.S. The sems are halfway. All the more reason to be happy.
